Christian Barthélemy, is a French painter born in Paris, 13 August 1962. He lives and works in Alloa Scotland. He is a member of the SAU (the Scottish Artist Union) and also member of Resonate together in Alloa. He is a member of the International Guild of Realism Scottsdale, Arizona USA.
1980 – 1981 He attended Clouet’s workshops in the Marais quarter which prepare at two major Parisian schools: the École des Beaux-Arts (the Fine Arts School) and at the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs (also known as Arts Decos’, Ecole des Arts Decoratifs, E.N.S.A.D.).
1981 – 1982 He attended Baudry’s workshops in Montparnasse quarter which prepare at two major Parisian art schools: the École des Beaux-Arts (the Fine Arts School) and at the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs (also known as Arts Decos’, Ecole des Arts Decoratifs, E.N.S.A.D.).
Beginning from summer of 1982: Settled his 1st artist studio in the northern French Alps (Haute-Savoie), where he continued his training by practicing the pictorial techniques of the ancient masters.
First gouache works. Paintings created from 19th century photographs, adapted in a candid style. During the following years, he painted his first oil works. Landscapes, portraits and architectural themes were his main subjects.
During this period, the candid and expressive representation of characters, producing light caricatures based on real persons often portrayed in front of architectural backgrounds.
From 1987 to 1990 Exhibitions in Switzerland: first collection of oil paintings (Pro Arte Gallery, in Morges, near Lausanne).
1988 First journey to Venice and strong artistic impressions.
1989 In September, first personal exhibition (Pro Arte Gallery, in Morges, near Lausanne). In December exhibition in Megève (Saint-Paul Gallery)
1991 Paintings became more realistic. Beginning of the Venetian series. Return to Venice in September.
1996 Beginning of a series of oil paintings of French landscapes.
1997 First series of mountain landscapes in watercolour. First exhibition of the Venetian works in the Plateau d’Assy’s Cultural centre.
1998 Second exhibition of the Venetian series at the Clermont en Genevois’ castle, near Annecy.
1999 First appearance at the « Salon des Artistes Français » near the Eiffel Tower in Paris.
2000 Exhibition of the Venetian series in Paris (7th arrondissement’s City Council).
In November 2000, a second appearance at the « Salon des Artistes Français » in Paris, near the Eiffel Tower.
August 2003 He settled his 2nd artist studio in Xanten (Germany) in search for new subjects.
In November 2003 exhibition in the Haag Castle in Geldern. First Niederrhein landscapes.
Novembre 2004 Exhibition at the Herbert Kappelhoff Gallery in Emmerich (Niederrhein).
2005 Second part of the exhibition at the Herbert Kappelhoff Gallery in Emmerich (Niederrhein).
2006 Personal exhibition at his own workshop and gallery: Chris Barth Art Gallery in Xanten.
2007 Exhibition at the Galerie Les Quatre Saisons in Montreal, Canada. First journey in June to Russia in order to explore Saint Petersburg. Planning of a future a cycle on the city of Peter the Great, the northern matching piece to the Venetian cycle. Second journey in September to Saint Petersburg. Upon his return from Saint Petersburg, Christian Barthélemy started the Cycle on Saint Petersburg.
June 2012 He settled his 3rd artist studio in Alloa (Scotland) where he works and lives now.
2013 He is getting touch in Scotland and in other part of United of Kingdom to promote his works. Settling of the new website in autumn.
In November until 25th and 26th January 2014, Christian Barthelemy participated at The Annual International Show 2013 organised by Resonate Arts House in Alloa. This exhibition was opening by Mrs Jayne Baxter Member of the Scottish Parliament.
In December 2013, Christian Barthélemy became a member of SAU (the Scottish Artist Union).
In January 2014, Christian Barthélemy became a member of Resonate together in Alloa.
3rd-6th July 2014 The Liverpool Contemporary Art Fair 2014. 3rd-6th July, with the Mona Youssef Art Gallery. The event was being held at Liverpool’s World Museum, and located in one of the city’s most prestigious areas
In October 2014, Christian Barthélemy is a member of the International Guild of Realism Scottsdale, Arizona USA.
Mars 2015, Christian Barthélemy’s painting called French Alps, Mont Blanc massif autumn. Oil on canvas, 65 x 81 cm (32 x 39 in) has been selected to be displayed for the exhibitions of the Masterworks Museum Tour 2015 – 2016.
